Colorectal Therapy

Renew Manual Physical Therapy is uniquely trained to assist patients with all types of digestive and colorectal dysfunctions.

It is known that strains in the connective tissue of the viscera can result from surgical scars, adhesions, illness/inflammation, poor posture or injury/trauma. Visceral Manipulation evaluates and treats the dynamics of motion and suspension in relation to organs, membranes, fascia and ligaments. Proprioceptive communication within the body increases, thereby revitalizing a person and relieving symptoms of pain, dysfunction, and poor posture.

DIGESTIVE / COLORECTAL THERAPY FAQ'S

Bowel dysfunction is when the normal mechanics of the bowel are not working properly. This can lead to constipation, diarrhea, constipation coupled with diarrhea, pain or relief of pain with defecating (pooping), anal pain or itching, hemorrhoids, incomplete emptying, fecal incontinence, and fecal seepage (stains in your underwear).

Ever heard of the squatty potty? It was invented for a reason. Think of a toddler, still in a diaper, pooping……they squat/crouch heels to bottom. It is natural and more beneficial to be in this position, however, our Americanized bathrooms have taken this natural form away from us. This position (heels to bottom or simply bringing your shoulders and knees closer to one another) improves what is called the analrectal angle (see diagram here).

Ideally, proper breathing mechanics would be implemented during elimination to aide in this process, as well as, have proper nutrition to facilitate efficiency with defecation. So, put your phones down, pull up a foot stool, poop and get out! Sitting on the toilet for too long can be harmful for our system too as gravity starts to get the best of us causing pelvic organ prolapse or hemorrhoids.
